You get the opportunity to participate in our highly renowned SICSS course "Advanced Scientific Writing" with Dallas Murphy.
Date: March 16 - 20, 2026 (5-day block course)
Time: 9 am - 3 pm daily, depending on the number of participants. That means, the afternoons can be shorter (or probably free) according to the group size. Only the first day (March 3) starts at 8:30 am!
Learning outcomes: Participants will learn practical matters of structure, technique and process of scientific writing.
Content: The workshop will give participants a hands-on training in scientific writing. Each candidate must submit a written work (advanced manuscript).
All participants will need to read all manuscripts beforehand and be prepared to constructively discuss the style and content of their classmates’ work. By this it is possible to see exactly what aspects of one’s work need elaboration and to address them specifically.
Starting point for the workshop is Dallas Murphy’s observation that writing problems are most often ‘thinking problems’. In the workshop participants will learn how to structure a piece of writing and to properly use the English language.
Formal requirements for participation: Submission of a written manuscript by March 9, 2026, either complete or in advanced stage (please upload in the indico course/call for abstracts/submit new abstract).
IMPORTANT: Follow the attached guidelines for the format of the manuscript! Only correctly formatted manuscript may be accepted. Thank you.
And make sure you have read all manuscripts prior to their discussion in the course. A timetable will be sent around as soon as we have all manuscripts.
Course usability: Elective for SICSS doctoral candidates (and TRR 181) only; open for early PostDocs depending on capacities.
Credit Points: 3 CP
