DESCRIPTION: \nSecurity has become a battleground over the future of democ
 racy. Calls for more security dominate public debate\, and far-right actor
 s promise protection through hardened borders\, more policing\, and exclus
 ion. But the security of the nation-state was never meant for everyone - i
 t has always protected some by excluding others. So what do we do when the
  state will not protect us\, can no longer protect us\, or has become a th
 reat itself? Around the world\, people are already organizing their own pr
 otection: mutual aid and collective self-defence against immigration raids
  in the United States\, communities and volunteers organising protection u
 nder conditions of war in Ukraine\, decades of self-administration beyond 
 the state in Kurdistan\, and movements preparing for ecological collapse. 
 What they share is a refusal to rely only on the state. Bringing together 
 researchers and practitioners\, the panel asks what protection can look li
 ke when it no longer depends on the state - and what we would gain from th
 inking about security differently. A discussion with everyone present will
