General Information

The conference is planned as an on-site event. Active online participation is not planned. However most of the talks will be streamed and are available to the public afterwards. See https://www.conferences.uni-hamburg.de/event/256/page/161-online-webinar for details.

Registration Process

The registration process is split into two parts for technical reasons. You need a valid SSO login from your home institution or an Indico account. The login process will guide you if you need an account or not. If your institution login does not work, please choose Indico account as option. You might have to create a new one.

First step: Register yourself as a participant with the correct form from the Registration menu. We ask participants outside the University of Hamburg to pay a registration fee of 160€. It will cover participation and catering during the conference. Members of the University of Hamburg will be covered by internal funding. Please do not make any payments before we ask you to do so.

Second step: If you want to contribute a poster, please send us your contribution by filling out the form Submit Contribution. Please fill in the title and abstract and mark the correct person as speaker/presenter. If you want to, you can select a possible upgrade to a contributed talk. We will inform you after the registration deadline if the upgrade is possible.

You can register until 10th of July. Please do not book travel and housing before we accept your registration.

Selection Process

After all registrations and contributions have been submitted we will review all contributions and motivations and decide who we will accept as a participant. We will let you know until 15th of July. Since the conference is an on-site event it is not possible to accept all registrations.

Accommodation

We reserved a limited number of rooms in the nearby Mercure Hotel. See registration form for details. For those of you who do not want to stay in the Mercure hotel or could not get a room, these are a two alternatives which are reachable by a ~15 minute Bus ride:

Travel

Hamburg is the 2nd largest city in Germany and well connected. You can either use the long or regional train services or the international airport. The address of the venue is

Universität Hamburg/DESY
CFEL (Building 99)
Luruper Chaussee 149
22761 Hamburg

and the hotel is very close by. The corresponding bus stop is Luruper Chaussee (DESY). The easiest way to get around is public transportation since taxis are very expensive. You can use the webpage of the local transportation company (https://www.hvv.de/en) or the corresponding mobile app (HVV App) to navigate.

By train:

Please choose Hamburg Hbf (Central Station) if you come by long distance train.

  • You will arrive at Hauptbahnhof with ICE/IC or regional service
  • Switch to S21 in the direction of Elbgaustraße (S-train platforms)
  • Use the S21 and switch at Holstenstraße to 3 or X3 bus in the direction of Stadionstraße or Schenefeld
  • Use the bus and hop off at Luruper Chaussee (DESY)
  • Hotel and venue are across the street

Total travel time: approximately 25 minutes

Recommended Ticket: 3.50€ single ride. Available at the vending machine at the station. There will be no ticket machine inside the train!

By plane:

Please choose Hamburg Airport if you come by plane.

You will arrive at Hamburg Airport

  • Use the S1 train starting at the airport (there are no other trains and no other directions, so you can't miss it)
  • Use the train to Hauptbahnhof (Central Station)
  • Switch to S21 (same platform, opposite side. Please listen to the announcements and the signs, this might change from time to time) in the direction of Elbgaustraße
  • Use the S21 and switch at Holstenstraße to 3 or X3 bus in the direction of Stadionstraße or Schenefeld
  • Use the bus and hop off at Luruper Chaussee (DESY)
  • Hotel and venue are across the street

Total travel time: approximately 50 minutes

Recommended Ticket: 3.50€ single ride. Available at the vending machine at the station. There will be no ticket machine inside the train!

If you plan to see other parts of the city and use public transport the whole day, it might be cheaper to buy a one day ticket (6.90€ - valid from 9am to 6am of the next day, 8.20€ for the whole day). There is no stamping of tickets or ticket gates at the stations. So you just buy the ticket and start using buses and trains as well as ferries.

All people housed in the Mercure Hotel can walk to the venue on the DESY campus. All others might have a short commute of 10-20 minutes. The corresponding bus stop is Luruper Chaussee (DESY)

Please use the side gate to enter the DESY campus and follow the directions on-site or the map we attached here:
