Open communication and empathy are crucial for the success of research teams, but we know that sometimes it is not easy to find time to invest in fostering both. Therefore, CUI invites you to join our workshop: “Creating Collaborative Success in Research” during the CUI Summer Celebration. The workshop will start with all status groups together (PIs, Postdocs, PhDs) and will then be continued in different sub-groups where status-group-specific and sensitive topics can be discussed. In the end, the groups will come back together to find common ground and identify needed changes for future collaboration. Please read the official workshop description below to learn more about the workshop.
Empathy Workshop: Creating Collaborative Success in Research
This 3.5-hour immersive workshop invites PIs, Postdocs and PhDs to explore empathy, compassion, mirror neurons, and active listening techniques that create healthier, more productive (research) environments.
Learn to change perspective while examining compelling studies on empathy's positive workplace effects. Discover how understanding needs behind anger, transforms communication and reduces workplace stress.
The workshop features an exercise where PIs and early career researchers build bridges for understanding in a structured format. You'll leave with:
- Concrete learnings on conflict reduction
- Practical take-away actions you can start implementing immediately
- A shift of perspectives by understanding the neuroplasticity of your brain
- A personal commitment plan for lasting change
In this interactive session, you'll develop solution-focused approaches that keep projects moving forward with less friction and greater satisfaction. When we understand each other better, collaboration becomes effortless, and research goals are achieved more efficiently. The new skills acquired can path the way to clearer communication, fewer misunderstandings, less stress and burnout, and greater research productivity, creativity and innovation.
