Venue and Location

This workshop will be hosted at the Hamburg Advanced Research Centre for Bioorganic Chemistry (HARBOR) located on the Bahrenfeld campus shared by the University of Hamburg and DESY in Hamburg, Germany. For detailed information about the campus, please consult the website or welcome guide. The city can be reached by air travel to the Hamburg (HAM) airport or by rail; the central rail station is Hamburg Hauptbanhof.

To reach campus and locate HARBOR (bldg 610), the DESY maps and directions page may be helpful, and the HVV website or mobile app is the best way to navigate the public transit system1. The most direct route from the airport to HARBOR is to take the S1 train from platform 3 in the direction of Wedel (the airport is a terminal station, so any S1 train from there is the correct direction2) to the Ottensen station. At Ottensen, transfer to the 2 bus in the direction of Schenefeld until the Luruper Chausée (DESY) stop.

1Note that you must have a valid ticket before boarding public transit, and you can only pay cash to get a paper ticket at larger train stations. Alternatively, electronic tickets can be purchased online or in the hvv app. The hvv-switch app has route-planning, timetables and maps but does not sell tickets.

2To return to the airport, the same route in reverse is composed of the 2 bus in the US Berliner Tor direction and the S1 line in the direction of the airport (Flughaven), but note that the train bound for the airport will separate at some point into some cars bound for the airport and some bound for Pinneberg. Be sure the displays on your train car indicate a destination of the airport!
