Supervisor Training - support, accompany and graduate - 8 modules on good supervision

The MIN Faculty at Universität Hamburg supports supervisors and doctoral researchers in navigating the increasingly complex demands of academic supervision. This modular programme is primarily designed for supervisors and co-supervisors within the MIN Faculty, but participants from other faculties and institutions are very welcome to join.

Across eight interactive workshops (3 hours each), participants explore key aspects of effective supervision – from communication and meetings to expectations, conflict management, and good scientific practice. All modules can be attended individually.

What you gain from participation:

  • Practical skills for effective one-on-one supervision
  • Preventing conflicts by aligning expectations and clarifying roles
  • Tools for structuring meetings, providing constructive feedback, and handling challenges
  • Approaches to foster motivation, self-organization, and a productive research environment
  • Knowledge of good scientific practice and ethical supervision

Participants who attend at least five modules, including Module 8, receive the certificate “Certified Supervisor”, which can be included in academic CVs. A certificate of attendance is issued for each individual module.
