13–15 Sept 2023
Europe/Berlin timezone

We are pleased to announce a workshop on Eyetracking and Pupillometry in the framework of the Methods Academy of our RTG. Please find the details below:

Dates and times: 13th to the 15th of September 2023

Days 1 and 2: 9:00 – 18:00, Day 3: 9:00 – 13:30

Instructor: Dr. Niels A. Kloosterman, Charlotte Fresenius Hochschule Hamburg

The eye is the window into the brain: as researchers, we can learn a lot from where and how people look around. Recently, there has been a growing interest in what the fluctuations in the pupil can tell us about the state of people's brains. But how do you design an experiment around eye tracking, and how do you analyze the data?

In this three-day course, you will learn the ins and outs of eye tracking. By the end, you will be able to design and conduct a solid eye-tracking experiment, and perform basic analyses of saccadic eye movements and pupil responses.

We'll be using an SR Research EyeLink system in the course, but the skills learned in this course are transferable to other eye tracking systems. Analysis will be done using the FieldTrip toolbox for M/EEG, so the experience can easily be extended for example to EEG studies and even simultaneous EEG-eye tracking projects.

Please find the tentative programme attached.

Prerequisites: own laptop with recent, active Matlab installation

The instructor, Dr. Niels A. Kloosterman, holds an interim professorship in General Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at Charlotte Fresenius Hochschule Hamburg.
