We are pleased to announce a workshop on Bayesian statistics in the framework of the Methods Academy of the RTG 2753. Please find the details below:
Dates and times: 26th to the 27th of September, 09:00 – 12:00 & 13:00 – 16:00 on both days
Instructor: Prof. Dr. Timo von Oertzen
Most researchers feel that they have a rough idea of what Bayesian statistics are, but feel anxious about needing to acquire completely new maths skills. In this interactive workshop, we will discover that things are the opposite of what you may expect: the more challenging aspect is adapting to a new way of thinking, something which you may feel you already know about, while the models, computations and statistics are actually more familiar. We will lay the theoretical foundations, go over some play examples together, and then look at some real (or at least realistic) data. Feel free to bring some of your own data if you feel that this would be a good starting point for your journey into modern data analysis!
Prerequisites/Knowledge: Bring what you know of statistics, frequentist or otherwise: that’s all you need to know for levelling up to Bayesian!
Timo von Oertzen is the scientific director at the Thomas Bayes Institute at Berlin, core software developer of Ωnyx, and full professor at the Department of Psychology, University of the Federal Defense Forces Munich. The Thomas Bayes Institute investigates modern methods in data analyses, software development for data analyses, and study designs in the empirical sciences. Its mission is to help empirically working scientists to make the most of their data via individual consultation, workshops and easy-to-use stats software.
